Holiday Outfit Ideas, Two Ways!

December 13, 2020

*This week we have our first guest post! A HUGE thank you goes to Lindsay’s sister, Whitney, for contributing to the blog this week!

Have you ever received or sent a text from/to one of your friends that goes like this: “Hey, what are you planning on wearing to [insert event]?” Isn’t it hard being a woman and figuring out what to wear ALL THE TIME. Sure, it’s fun to dress up…but it can also be quite cumbersome and stressful, not to mention that we “never have ANYTHING TO WEAR!” (while we stare at a closet filled with clothes).

The holidays can be super stressful in a lot of ways, especially when trying to put together outfits for all the different events and parties we get invited to each year (maybe not quite as many this year!) Either way, I want to make your life a tad easier by providing you with a few dressy and casual outfit options for holiday occasions using FIVE wardrobe staples that (most) everyone has in their closet:

1. Dark jeans

2. Plaid shirt

3. Black leggings

4. Cream/white cardigan

5. Little black dress (LBD)

Side note – if you don’t own one or more of these items in your closet, I encourage you to purchase them because each of these pieces are so valuable and versatile when it comes to making a quick and easy outfit decision!

Wardrobe Staple #1: Dark Wash Jeans

A good pair of dark denim is a must-have for any occasion!

Create a causal look with a black ruffled top, flats and a brimmed hat (or cute headband)

-or-

dressed up with some red heels for a holiday pop of color!

Great for: date night or an office party/gathering

Wardrobe Staple #2: Plaid Shirt

I specifically chose this plaid shirt because the red checkered pattern is very festive so it’s perfect for the holidays!

Dress it down with some cozy socks and combat boots

-or-

dressed up with heeled booties!

Great for: a holiday gift exchange or family gathering

Wardrobe Staple #3: Black Leggings

This is my most worn and versatile clothing item!

For a more casual holiday vibe, wear with a festive sweater and black mules

-or-

dress it up with a chunky sweater, OTK (over-the-knee) black- heeled boots, and a bold red lip.

Great for: any type of holiday occasion, and either one would also make a great outfit for family pictures

Wardrobe Staple #4: Cream or White Cardigan

You can’t go wrong with this color cardigan because you can pair it with any other color!

Wear casual with a simple red tee and black or plaid flats

-or-

give it a dressier feel with a knotted oversized tee, black leggings and dark brown booties

Great for: a low-key holiday gathering like a friend gift exchange!

Wardrobe Staple #5: Little Black Dress

Every woman should own a LBD because it’s the easiest item to pair with anything!

Make it casual with a long cardigan and flats

-or-

dress it up with a pretty colored jacket and black heeled booties!

Great for: girls night, date night, or a work party

Overall, I hope this gives you some ideas for easy outfits to put together for the holidays. You can play around with all of these wardrobe staples since they are all so versatile and easy to mix and match!

Stay safe and enjoy this holiday season with loved ones. Thanks for stopping by!
